in 1992 when she was just graduating from high school, Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology with Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska. Bossard started her commercial seafood career in 1999, when she started working aboard the F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner, which was transformed into an ice-fish tender was operated by Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard has been married to Aritan, has joined their forces in order to claim their respective industries. They support conservative and sustainable renewable resource management. In 2007, the mother of two young children Bella aged 3 and Andre 1 Bossard before returning to her home in Philadelphia, opened a direct market wholesale seafood distributor known as Otolith. The name of the company is a loving reminder of her intimate understanding of fish biology and her husband's long connection with the fishing industry, frequently keeping them from each other for 5 months or more at a time when they are focused on their financial and environmental goals which reflect both their independence and dedication to the community in which they call home. Bossard along with their son Andre and Isabella, her daughter Isabella are scheduled to return to Southeast Alaska every summer as deckhands for the salmon season. After two months of fishing using hooks as well as lines, and a 42-foot salmon trolling machine they joined Aritan and were sold local processors of seafood.
